365体育官网RAYNHAM — Ten residents of a town nursing home have died and nearly 50 residents of the facility have tested positive for the coronavirus, a town official said.

365体育官网A total of 48 residents at the Life Care Center of Raynham have tested positive for COVID-19 as of late Saturday night, according to selectmen Chairman Joseph Pacheco, and 10 residents at the nursing home have died.

365体育官网Five more residents have died since Wednesday afternoon, when Pacheco said there were five deaths and 44 cases at the facility. The nursing home has 154 beds, according to the Massachusetts Senior Care Association.

365体育官网The first positive case of COVID-19 was detected at the nursing home on March 31.

The Massachusetts National Guard was requested soon after to conduct testing at the facility, which revealed dozens of positive cases.

Initially, the National Guard tested 47 residents and found 38 had the coronavirus. That number has since increased. Several staff members of the nursing home have also tested positive for the disease.

The first resident died at the nursing home on April 3.

365体育官网In Raynham, 104 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Saturday night, according to the Raynham Health Department.

Two town residents who didn't live at the Life Care Center have also died after contracting COVID-19, according to Pacheco, bringing the town's death toll from the coronavirus to 12.

The Raynham Health Department announced on March 19 that the first resident had tested positive for COVID-19.

In Bristol County, 1,698 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus as of Saturday afternoon and 83 residents have died.
